Sciencenter to Transform Educational Program with New Team

ITHACA, NY - The Sciencenter is pleased to welcome Dr. Rae Ostman as Manager of Education and Alexis Abramo as Education Program Coordinator.

As Manager of Education, Ostman brings 12 years of experience in the museum field to the Sciencenter and has primary responsibility for leading the museum's Education Department in the planning, implementing, and evaluating of the Sciencenter's current and future educational programs. Prior to joining the Sciencenter, Ostman served as project manager for an NSF-funded exhibit development project and as manager of the exhibits department for the Exploratorium in San Francisco. She has also worked at the American Museum of the Moving Image in Queens, NY, at Acoustiguide Corporation in New York, NY, and at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, Italy. Ostman holds a PhD in Anthropology from New York University and a BA from Cornell University.

Alexis Abramo is a certified elementary teacher with a MS in teaching from SUNY Cortland and a BA in psychology from Barnard College. Abramo is responsible for implementing the planned expansion of the popular Sciencenter Summer Camp, and for developing new programs for school and youth groups. She brings to the Sciencenter 11 years of experience in developing and directing youth education programs, as well as conducting environmental education, outreach and research.

The Sciencenter, located at 601 First Street in Ithaca, is a hands-on science museum for people of all ages with over 200 exhibits, a full range of on and off-site educational programs, an outdoor science park, a seasonal 18-hole miniature golf course, and a gift shop.
