The Science of TOYS!

Winter Vacation Camp is held at the Sciencenter during Ithaca City School District's February break. Each day we'll explore a different type of toy through hands-on projects, activities and demonstrations. There will be plenty of time for playing in the museum and other unstructured activities.

The small size of our program with a staff to camper ratio of 1:5 allows your child to participate in high-quality programming and develop personal relationships with the staff.

Activities

Our activities are designed for girls and boys in grades 2-6. We will focus on a different type of toy every morning. Campers will deconstruct toys and see how they work, create their own toys, and try experiments, games, and activities that show the physics and chemistry principles that make toys fun. Afternoons will consist of free choice activities including museum exploration, outside play, supervised crafts, games and science activities.

Dates

• Full Week: Monday, February 18, through Friday, February 22
• Partial Week: Monday, February 18 & Tuesday, February 19
• Partial Week: Wednesday, February 20 through Friday, February 22

Hours

Camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (from Monday through Friday). During drop-off time between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., campers will work on self-paced games and activities in the NYSEG room. We begin our projects and activities at 9:00 a.m. The Sciencenter provides a mid-morning snack each day. Campers bring a bag lunch from home.

Cost

• Full Week (Mon.-Fri.): $265 for members and $290 for non-members
• Partial Week (Mon. & Tues.): $110 for members and $120 for non-members
• Partial Week (Wed.-Fri.): $165 for members and $180 for non-members
